Ongoing Programs
Mentorship
Education
We have a comprehensive mentorship program that provides influence, guidance, and counseling. The social, cultural, emotional, and unique needs of youth, primarily African American males, are unique and mentoring is a critical step to addressing these needs. Community-based Mentoring Program for Youth “Show me a successful individual and I’ll show you someone who had real positive influences in his or her life. I don’t care what you do for a living—if you do it well, I’m sure there was someone cheering you on or showing the way. A mentor.” – Denzel Washington Mentoring is work never forgotten, but it lasts a lifetime. We understand the complexities of the world that African American men are being raised in. We have been there. Our mentoring program addresses these complexities by pairing seasoned black leaders with emerging ones and cultivating an environment where transformation happens. Through our partnership with Tulsa Public Schools, we have reached over seven schools and hundreds of youth, shaping them into strong, healthy culturally aware, young men. From educating them on the 1921 Race Massacre to simply being a listening ear for life guidance, our members serve as positive role models, advocates, and trusted advisors for them in their most formative years. Unlike many mentoring groups, our program is both focused and broad enough to reach a variety of youth through group, individualized and intervention mentoring. Schools Served: - Central High School - McLain High School - Rogers High School - Webster High School - Central Middle School - Monroe Middle School - Wayman Tisdale Fine Arts Academy - Unity Elementary - Legacy Charter School
We have been educating and empowering youth since 1994. We are committed to ensuring that more youth have access to college opportunities and educational resources. College Tuition Scholarship Program “Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today..” – Malcom X We have been educating and empowering youth for over three decades. We are committed to ensuring that more youth have access to college opportunities and educational resources. It is vital that they understand how to navigate the college experience and receive the proper funding to attend. College should always be an option, despite what someone’s economic status is. Yearly we provide 5 students with a college scholarship of $1,000. Our goal is to expand the amount to $1,500 per student starting in 2025. With the generous support of corporate sponsors and community partners, we have been able to award more than $75,000 in college scholarships to underserved students to close the gap of rising tuition costs, helping our community have access to quality education and become ready to compete in a global society.
Economic Empowerment
The 100 Black Men of America, Inc. considers economic empowerment necessary for creating just societies around the world. Our Tulsa initiatives are designed to stimulate the interests of our youth to develop a healthy respect for money and effective ways to manage it. Youth Entrepreneurship Program “We can transcend the script of a pre-defined story, and pave the way for the future that we design. We just need to tap that power, that conviction, that determination within us. The good news is, we follow people that look like us if the story is told the right way.” - Robert F. Smith, chairman, and CEO of Vista Equity Partners Entrepreneurship is the driving force of wealth and the fabric of the American economy, however, only 10% of business in the United States are owned by African Americans. This creates a large gap of underrepresentation of successful business owners as examples for our youth. Our entrepreneurship program is poised to change this trend by training Women and educating black young men on the value of being an entrepreneur and growing a business as well as the importance of having great money management skills through our financial literacy program. Previous activities our students have completed include shadowing local entrepreneurs to learn how to start a business and attending financial literacy classes about budgeting, credit, and more.
Health and Wellness
The 100’s health and wellness goals are to raise awareness, provide access to health care and give health information that will ultimately promote behavior change resulting in a healthier lifestyle. Health Education & Resources Life is not a spectator sport. If you're going to spend your whole life in the grandstand just watching what goes on, in my opinion, you're wasting your life. – Jackie Robinson Your health is directly tied to your longevity. We are taking back the health of our community by providing them with the resources they need to make quality decisions about the food they eat, the care they take, and their daily activities. We focus on mind and body, stimulating and empowering them with the resources they need to be healthy and aware of the options they have to become and remain well. Our Annual Men’s Health and Wellness Expo is the main vehicle in which we are able to support the wellness of our community. In partnership with the Tulsa Health Department and other community organizations, we have been able to educate men on the importance of proper nutrition, annual care, all while creating a community event the citizens can be proud of since 2015!
